The Patronage of the Bonn Youth Symphony Orchestra
Ludwig van Beethoven himself was already supported by citizens of Bonn: Christian Gottlob Neefe instructed him on the piano, organ and texture, and Franz Anton Ries on the violin. When his son Ferdinand Ries came to Vienna, Beethoven paid him back with the same support filled with gratitude. This tradition is a commitment that the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn is glad to honour
The Bonn Youth Symphony Orchestra (Bonner Jugendsinfonieorchester – BJSO) has been under the patronage of the musicians of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn since 2006. Joint rehearsals are conducted and the young artists are prepared for the annual patronage concert. One focus of the programme is on the composers closely associated with Bonn: Beethoven, Ries and Schumann. However, the young musicians also have works by Gershwin or Bernstein in their repertoire. The city considers a very good youth orchestra a symbol of the support and friendship created through music.
